Curated collections

Games grouped by the session you actually have

Genre labels tell you very little about whether a game fits your evening. These collections are organised around time, company and mood instead — and each one comes with an explanation of why these games belong together.

Why we curate rather than just list

A catalogue sorted only by genre puts a five-minute time-waster next to a game you could lose an evening to, with nothing to tell them apart. Collections are our attempt to fix that. Each one starts from a real situation — you have a quarter of an hour and a laptop, you have three other people in the room, you want something quiet before bed — and then asks which games genuinely serve that situation.

That means a game can appear in more than one collection, and it means some good games do not appear in any. A well-made game that needs a long uninterrupted session does not belong in a short-break collection no matter how good it is. If you think we have grouped something badly, tell us through the contact page.

How to read a collection

The introduction to each collection explains the reasoning. The games below it each link to a full detail page with an original assessment, strategy tips and answers to common questions. If you want to browse everything instead, the full catalogue lets you filter and sort by our Curator Score.
